Summary

Get ready for the electrifying biography of Nikola Tesla--part creative genius, part mad scientist, and 100% innovator。

When Nikola Tesla arrived in the United States in 1884, he didn't have much money, but he did have a letter of introduction to renowned inventor Thomas Edison。 The working relationship between the two men was short lived, though, and the two scientist-inventors became harsh competitors。 One of the most influential scientists of all time, Nikola Tesla is celebrated for his experiments in electricity, X-rays, remote controls, and wireless communications。 His invention of the Tesla coil was instrumental in the development of radio technology。

Thorough kid-friendly account of an inventor who has often been undervalued or overlooked。

This was a very enlightening book filled with information on Nikola Tesla。 He is one of the lesser known inventors of the twentieth century。 He helped develop the alternating current of electricity that we now use in many products today。 He was constantly inventing new ideas。 The reader will learn many new things about his life and inventions by reading this book。

My son is studying Tesla for a school report so we read this book together。 I thought the book was great explaining the highlights of his life while also keeping it interesting。 We both enjoyed reading this。

Best part was when young Tesla was quoted as being uncertain about walking in the streets with the "city dudes"。 What are city dudes? Best part was when young Tesla was quoted as being uncertain about walking in the streets with the "city dudes"。 What are city dudes? 。。。more

I didn't know much about Nikola Tesla so it was fun to read more about him。 He really was a genius。 I thought it was interesting to read how fastidious he was。 He didn't like shaking hands and was pretty OCD about things。 He had to eat dinner at the exact same time each night。 What made me sad was that he pretty much died alone and broke。 That seems to happen so much to a lot of famous people。 I was glad that his old company stepped up to take care of him。 Great series!

He talks about what it was like to live in the country he grew up, why he chose to travel to another country, how he got there, and why he chose to stay。 There are several ways I would use this book in the classroom, a history book, a book for math and science, a book for a character to study for a wax museum presentation, a book about a boy and his struggles as he grew up, a book club book for small group discussion, and/or an inspirational book about what you can do and accomplish when you really want to make it happen。 。。。more

Excellent book。 I read Who Was Thomas Edison? and then followed by reading this one。 It was fascinating to read about the competition between the men and how they nurtured their ideas。 This book read as if it were fiction。 It was a very interesting book and full of adventure and interesting bits about his life。

I knew nothing of Nikola Tesla before this other than his name。 We read these with our kids for their social studies lessons。 Simple and straightforward reads and very informative for an introductory book on the person。

As a degreed Electrical Engineer I'm ashamed to admit, but I will, that I first learned about Tesla (T) as a derived unit of measure used to express the strength of a magnetic field。 As with many units of measure in various scientific fields, I eventually learned that the Tesla was named in honor of Nikola Tesla, a giant figure in the field of electronics。 He came from humble beginnings and he loved to experiment, especially with anything electrical。 Eventually arriving penniless in America with As a degreed Electrical Engineer I'm ashamed to admit, but I will, that I first learned about Tesla (T) as a derived unit of measure used to express the strength of a magnetic field。 As with many units of measure in various scientific fields, I eventually learned that the Tesla was named in honor of Nikola Tesla, a giant figure in the field of electronics。 He came from humble beginnings and he loved to experiment, especially with anything electrical。 Eventually arriving penniless in America with a letter of introduction to Thomas Edison with whom he did important work。 After a falling out he became Edison's major competitor。 Holder of some 700 patents in the US and Europe his inventions and scientific breakthroughs are way too numerous to list but notably he developed the concepts and applications for AC current, remote controls, wireless communications, robotics, newer forms of turbine engines, and the Tesla Coil。 Much of what he developed formed the basis for modern technology and products that are commonly used today。 Sadly, many today only recognize Tesla as a name for a line of electric vehicles。 Who Was Nikola Tesla by Jim Gigliotti is a short book that is brimming with facts about the life of one of the most prolific inventors in human history。 It is well researched and will hold your interest no matter who you are or what your interests。 。。。more

I feel like I need to do more research into Tesla before I can decide that this book is truly accurate in its telling。 Some things seemed biased, but I also know that information about Tesla ha been tainted over the years。 Still a good introduction for children to his works and importance in history。

One of the best Who Was books。 I learned a LOT from this one。 The knowledge made me start to question Edison。 I have passed it on to a couple science teachers in my school and they too have enjoyed it。

I chose the book because I wanted to learn about someone's life。 Nikola was quite a crazy person as he wanted to see if he could fly just by going up a second story building and holding an umbrella out the window while jumping out of it and also how he was wanting to build a death ray to end all wars。 I chose the book because I wanted to learn about someone's life。 Nikola was quite a crazy person as he wanted to see if he could fly just by going up a second story building and holding an umbrella out the window while jumping out of it and also how he was wanting to build a death ray to end all wars。 。。。more
